That badass woman you see in the picture above is my grandma. She was tall, beautiful, and a phenomenal cook.
Tete (which means grandmother in Arabic) grew up as a peasant in a rural village outside of Damascus. She and my grandfather (Jiddo) would spend a few months each year staying with my family in California.
Before I reached kindergarten age, I spent my days in the kitchen with Tete and Jiddo, kneading dough, mixing spices, and making ghee.
I think Tete would be proud to see her recipe being shared with family and friends throughout the country.
